Jackie Bush Turner

pastels and other media

2020 brought about a new direction for my artwork. Due to the Pandemic, and the resulting “stay at home orders” I began to look inward and found inspiration in symbolizing life cycles. I selected the Salmon as my motif, it was a natural. Usage of a new image also led me to experiment with a new medium. I still love working with pastels, but I decided a change would be good.  Being a woodcarver, I was interested in trying my hand at woodcuts. I completed a few drawings that I felt would convey the feeling I was trying to express. I purchased the materials I would need and began transferring my ideas onto the wood for carving. Going from a medium using strong, bold colors to basic black and white was quite a change.
