Maria was a great friend to the Collective Visions Gallery and is remembered with much fondness. She passed away on February 22, 2022. 
 

From the obituary written by her husband David Mackovjak:

"Maria Mercedes Mackovjak, age 59, passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband, sons, and family on February 22, 2022. While pancreatic cancer took her from us way too soon; Mercedes’ journey in this life was full and blessed with joy. She leaves each of us with a memory or experience which will live on, in us. We are grateful for the time she shared and celebrate the life she lived. 

In lieu of flowers, it was Mercedes’ wish to start an art scholarship to encourage new students to pursue their passions in the Arts. If you would like to donate to this fund, please visit the Kitsap Community Foundation which is managing the Maria Mercedes Mackovjak Memorial Artist Scholarship."
