Rachel Faye Frank
watercolor, mixed media
Rachel Faye Frank is a watercolor and mixed-media artist whose work explores the interplay of intricate line, negative space, color and organic materials. Drawn to watercolor for its dynamic and forgiving nature, she has worked extensively with the medium since 2007.
Her process is rooted in experimentation, combining delicate, painstaking line work with loose washes of color and unexpected materials. Studies of hands and elements of the natural world appear throughout her work, creating a contrast between carefully controlled detail and more spontaneous forms.
Rachel describes her current series as an attempt to express something that words often fall short of capturing. Rather than beginning with a fixed narrative, the work develops through line, color, form and intuition—an approach she likens more closely to music or sound than to language.
Her work has been exhibited on a small scale in the United States and internationally, including in Denver, Colorado; Puyallup, Washington; Bronxville, New York; Florence, Italy; Sydney, Australia; and Calcutta, India.
