Collective Visions Gallery is proud to present Nocturnal, a bold and expressive solo exhibition by Bremerton-based artist Ina Xi, on view throughout May in the main gallery. In this body of work, Ina challenges conventional notions of watercolor as a delicate and airy medium, turning instead toward the intensity of night and the saturated hues of urban life.
Nocturnal captures the shadowed streets, glowing windows, and neon-lit corners of Bremerton and nearby towns. Using an alla prima technique—painting wet-on-wet with speed and conviction—Ina alternates between multiple brushes, each loaded with different pigments and consistencies. The result is a series of atmospheric works filled with dramatic shifts in light, contrast, and mood. Rather than build up color with slow layers, Ina moves quickly, rendering each piece with a raw immediacy that draws the viewer into her nocturnal world.
Though she only recently transitioned from a corporate career into full-time artmaking, Ina Xi has already established herself as a rising talent in the region. She is a plein air painter and art educator whose work explores themes of nostalgia, travel, and collective human experience. In the past year alone, she has earned 1st Place in the 2024 Northwest Watercolor Society International Open, 1st Place in the Parklane Gallery Smallworks Winter Show, and was named Emerging Artist of the 2025 CVG Annual Show.
Join us in May to experience Nocturnal, and see how Ina Xi uses watercolor not to suggest softness—but to reveal intensity, movement, and the emotional landscape of the night.
