This June, the Underground Gallery at Collective Visions presents Kate & Rose, Art & Friendship—a heartfelt collaboration between two artists who share a deep connection through creativity and camaraderie.
Rose Guastella, painter, potter, and art educator, brings a selection of oil paintings inspired by the landscapes and human-made forms of the Pacific Northwest. With a deep reverence for the harmony between natural and constructed environments, Rose explains, “It is profoundly important to me to record what I feel as well as what I see when I interpret nature and the impact of human-made structures and objects.” Her work invites viewers to experience the emotional resonance of place through her eyes.
Kate Vikstrom, working in watercolor and collage, offers paintings shaped by both the local scenery and her travels. “I have always lived in watery places, including a rainforest,” she says. “I didn’t choose watercolor … watercolor chose me!” In addition to her vivid landscapes and seascapes, Kate also reimagines “failed” watercolors into intricate collages—finding new life in what once was discarded.
Together, Kate and Rose explore their friendship through the lens of their individual practices—oil and water, structure and spontaneity. Though their media and approaches differ, the connection between them and the mutual respect for each other’s work brings a cohesive warmth to the exhibition.
You may have heard that oil and water don’t mix—but this show proves otherwise.
Join us in June to see how two distinct artistic voices can come together in a celebration of expression, environment, and enduring friendship.
